Title | Delta O18 data during the cruise of TR/V Umitaka-Maru, UM0809 |
Sub-Title | |
Data Summary | The relative proportion of principal stable oxygen isotopes of oxygen in seawater (usually quoted as delta O18, defined as the ratio of O18 to O16 relative to Vienna Standard Mean Ocean Water) is controlled by precipitation, glacial ice, and freezing-melting of sea ice. Hence it is a useful tracer in detecting the origin of freshwater. We collected water samples for the delta O18 analysis from top-to-bottom CTD casts with 30ml glass vials. The vials were sealed with parafilms. The samples are to be shipped to Institute of Low Temperature Science, Hokkaido University, and the analysis will be conducted with a mass spectrometer. |
